Region Databases moving this weekend (EU Only)

A lot of perceived lag on regions, anywhere in Opensim, has to do with the components required to run a simulator (or a grid). Each region, as well as the grid asset store, has its own database. In some configurations (not ours), the database is run on the same host as the simulator. The disk IO required for communication between the simulator and its database can slow down simulators, especially with lots of prims and and big varsims. At Zetaworlds we run the region databases on a separate server which reduces the disk IO required on the simulator hosts. We are upgrading that database server this weekend for EU hosted regions and the EU asset server. The new server has more memory and solid state disks, and is located in the same datacenter as the simulator hosts so IO should not be a problem. Regions will be restarted one by one as their databases migrate to the new server. We will examine the North American hosts in the near future with a similar migration in mind. Downtime should be minimal.
