Gridservice Upgrades

As we continue to look for new ways to improve the service we provide we have recently started looking into a new way of splitting the grid services up to better distribute the load each individual part of the grid service is under. The new system is currently in testing and will be deployed once we are certain that all functionality is tested and confirmed working as intended.

In the meantime we have been upgrading the grid services we currently run to take advantage of some fixes brought about by testing we did in conjunction with Austin Tate of Openvue. As the changes are somewhat grave, especially in regards to presence and user handling, we would like to make sure they have not negatively impacted the quality of service we provide, so we ask that if you experience any issues logging in or teleporting to let us know. We have validated the changes to be of no concern, but as with most software you never know until you try so we have pushed the changes for now.

The new load balancing strategy is a step forward to reduce the potential of the ever evolving content in OpenSim choking the grid service in the future. As a lot of what is being done is undocumented territory we have enlisted the help of Gimisa Cerise, who has been providing the basis for these changes, to help with testing and validation. We will continue to test the new load balancing strategy in our test environment and plan to push these changes into production in the not too distant future.

As the year is ending we would like to thank everyone involved with the grids projects and all the volunteers that help make ZetaWorlds what it is. Given the times it might be hard to look forward to what the future may hold, but it is even more imperative now to keep a positive attitude and make the best out of the situation.
